1964 Bruichladdich 40 Year Old

Having been closed since 1994 by then-owners Whyte & McKay, Bruichladdich was brought back to life by Mark Reynier (of Murray McDavid) and a group of investors around the turn of the millenium.

Jim McEwan was appointed as master distiller after a 38 year career at nearby Bowmore, where he was distillery manager. Under Reynier and McEwan, Bruichladdich went through something of a renaissance in the early noughties with a handful of releases, such as this one, featuring the remaining stocks from the 1960s and 1970s - a magical period in the distillery's history.

This 40 year old was distilled in 1964 and matured for the full term in fresh bourbon casks, claiming the title of oldest Bruichladdich ever released.

Presented with a hand numbered certificate of authenticity, signed by Jim McEwan.

A limited edition of 550 bottles originally released in 2004.
